Description of the Temple of Dakka
معبد الدكة هو معبد يوناني‑روماني قديم مكرَّس للإله تحوت، إله الحكمة والكتابة في مصر القديمة. تأسس في القرن الثالث قبل الميلاد على يد الملك أركاماني بالتعاون مع بطليموس الرابع، وتم توسيعه لاحقًا في عهد بطليموس التاسع والإمبراطورين الرومان أغسطس وتيبيريوس. نُقل بالكامل إلى وادي السبوع الجديد بأسوان لحمايته من غمر بحيرة ناصر بعد بناء السد العالي. يجمع المعبد بين الهندسة المصرية القديمة والعناصر الهلنستية والرومانية، ويحتوي على نقوش للإله تحوت والطقوس الدينية المتعلقة بالكتابة والحكمة، مما يجعله مركزًا مهمًا لفهم الفكر الديني والمعرفي في مصر القديمة.
The Temple of Dakka is an ancient Greco-Roman temple dedicated to Thoth, the Egyptian god of wisdom and writing. It was founded in the 3rd century BCE by King Arqamani in collaboration with Ptolemy IV, and later expanded during the reign of Ptolemy IX and the Roman emperors Augustus and Tiberius. The temple was fully relocated to New Wadi Sebou’, Aswan, to protect it from flooding caused by Lake Nasser after the construction of the High Dam. The temple combines ancient Egyptian architecture with Hellenistic and Roman elements and features carvings of Thoth and religious rituals related to writing and wisdom, making it a key site for understanding ancient Egyptian religious and intellectual thought.
